How to get an audience?

Hello all above the liners...I'm a professional Editor looking to build my music video and commercial reel and I've been commissioned to Direct my first music video next week. I'm wondering what outlets I should use to promote the video. I know youtube and myspace. But does anyone have a list of sites that accept submissions. Video sites, Blog sites, music video news etc. I'm just looking to get some good PR for my first gig.

Any resources would be greatly appreciated.

Sure, any of the above. However, the band will be the best method. Assuming they have anything like a street team or good email list, you want the fans to spread the word.

Oh, this is a dirty trick. On YouTube, I put in keywords like XXX, sex, etc. People will look out of curiousity. It is like putting a "wet paint" sign up, everyone is tempted to touch it at least once.

There are various sites out there that take videos, many are based on genre. A simple google search based on the genre should get you there quickly. Quite a few are actually pay-for-play. Illegal in radio, no so on the Internet. While some take submissions, others appear "indie" but are somewhat beholden to the "machine."

Really, the industry is so diverse that there are many sites based upon narrow tastes, such as the Texas Music charts or Screamo Christian Rock.

www.singingfool.com is a social networking site only for music videos. kinda cool, but it is only very Windows Media/PC friendly for those of us that use Linux or a Mac.

I think the above reply said it all. To add to that, its a very time consuming to upload to all the sites out there. I know it took me weeks to search for different outlets, and to this day I keep running into new ones and just upload them. Best of luck..

Release PR's about it too...There are thousands of free PR sites....Google it. The more your name splatters over the web....the better luck you'll have.

Stage 6 is a video site based on the DivX codec. Much bigger vids at much higher quality than Youtube. I have a couple vids on there, and the community is really cool.
