Would you buy a Ringle?

The newest creation of the music industry, the "ringle" ("which combines the mostly defunct single format with ringtones"). is set to come out in October. What is is exactly, must be directly quoted: "Each ringle is expected to contain three songs -- one hit and maybe one remix and an older track -- and one ringtone, on a CD with a slip-sleeve cover." List price is stated to be inbetween $5.98-$6.98. See the Billboard/Reuters article here:… Continue

Also of note is how director Chris Applebaum realized the power of music videos being streamed over the internet. Read the article "Music Videos go Lo-fi as Cash Dries Up" here: http://ap.google.com/article/ALeqM5i

Faking Amateurism?

We all want to support the underdog...but what if he or she were repped by a major Hollywood talent agency or major label? Would we still feel the same? Today's Wall Street Journal has an article on how Hollywood Records "engineered" one of their artists to appear as if she was an unknown discovered on YouTube. Radio stations and talk shows teamed up with the label behind the scenes to perpetuate the image to add to the artist's appeal. Does this make it even harder to be an amateur trying to ge… Continue
